By Our Reporter 2015-09-17
ISLAMABAD: The Transparency International-Pakistan has asked the chief justice of Sindh High Court to vacate the stay order obtained by private educational institutions a few years ago and let the cases proceed on a priority basis so that poor parents can get relief.

Since 2005, private educationalinstitutions in Clifton and Defence area of Karachi have increased the fee up to 500 per cent in many cases and have also been taking extra charges in the name of admission fee, annual fee, examination fee, summer vacation fee, etc.

The Transparencyhad requested the SHC`s chief justice in April 2012 to look into the matter as soon as the opportunity arises for early hearing so that the status quo may be changed, enabling students, par-ents and teachers to avail of benefits which they have been denied because ofthe stay order.

In Sindh, according to the Private Educational Institutions (Regulations and Control) Ordinance, 2001, the fee may be increased up to hve per cent of the last fees schedule subject to proper justification and approval of the registration authority.

Minimum salary and allowances of a full-time teacher with 12months of continuous service shall not be less than four times the monthly fee of a student of the highest class charged by the institution.

Parents and teachers associations shall be formed by every institution and at least 10pc students in the institution shall be granted full free ship.

However, the Transparency International says, not a single school is abiding by the law.
