T WO reports appearing in Dawn highlight the fastest man of Karachi. They are `Moheed titled fastest man of Karachi` (Sept 15) and `Who is the fastest man in Karachi?` (Jan 20).
Both reports have been parsimonious in their praise of the fastest woman, 13-year-old Hiba Khurshid.
She is mentioned as giving an `equally impressive performance` and `clean sweep.` Her achievements are mentioned in the second paragraphs of both write-ups. I find this upsetting, as Dawn strives to uphold the principles of gender equality.
For the record, Hiba has won the National Junior title in 2014 as well as 2015, besides being the best athlete in both competitionsand some others. When she won in 2014, it was after a decade that a player from Sindh had bought the title home. Hiba is a star performing athlete considering her young age and the official records that she has set.
