Leaguer says accountability must start from top

Bureau Report 2016-10-17
PESHAWAR: Senior PML-N leader Salim Saifullah Khan has urged the government to construct the western route of ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) first and establish better relations with the opposition.

Talking to mediapersons at his residence here on Sunday, he said that in the prevailing situation the western route was more safe and secure than the eastern route. He said that maximum focus should be made on the western route to give due share to KP in the multibillion dollar development plan.

The former senator suggested that political issues should be resolved in the parliament and urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to give maximum time to the National Assembly and establishment of better working relationship with the opposition.

He said that it was the duty of opposition to pinpoint weale nesses of the government while the government should take stepsfor solution of the problems.

Answering a question about Panama Leaks, he said that an inquiry commission should be constituted to differentiate between lawful and unlawful assets.

The leaguer said that the accountability process would succeed when it would start from the top, as arrest of patwaris, police constables and other low rank officials was no solution to the chronic issue like corruption.

However, he asked Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan to concentrate on the progress and development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and resolution of its basic problems instead of staging agitation and locking down cities. He said that Islamabad was the capital of an independent, democratic and Islamic welfare state and no one could lock it.

He said that in the present circumstances solution to any problem could be sorted out through negotiations.

Mr Saifullah said that Imran`s `new Pakistan` was notvisible anywhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rather the people even wanted the restoration of old Pakistan in its real shape.

He said that Imran should spare sometime to visit the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like Lakki Marwat to witness the magnitude of backwardness in the area.

He said that currently the situation on both the eastern and western borders of the country was tense and the freedom movement was getting strength in the India-held Kashmir.

He said that his family was not the product of anyone in politics as his grandfather Faizullah Khan was elected as member of legislative council (MLA) in prepartition period of 1936. He said that his family had always worked for eradication of corruption.

About his political achievements, Saifullah said that these included the grant of district status to Lalcki Marwat and establishment of a big industrial unit, while inauguration of Kurram Tangi Dam was scheduled shortly.
