Governor may leave hospital today

KARACHI: The health of Sindh Governor Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, who was hospitalised on Sunday after suffering from a chest infection and breathing problems, has become stable and may leave the hospital on Thursday (today), officials said.

According to the officials at Governor House, Mr Siddiqui has already been shifted to a private room from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The officials said doctors examined at the hospital and advised him to stay for another day. A three-member medical board at the hospital would examine him again on Thursday to decide whether to allow him to leave the hospital or not, the of ficials added.

Justice Siddiqui was sworn in as the 31st governor of Sindh on Friday after the federal government decided to end the 14-year tenure of former governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at a meeting held between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain at the Presidency. But the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which governs Sindh, expressed its dissatisfaction over the decision to appoint Justice Siddiqui complaining that it had not been taken into confidence.

Justice Siddiqui, who served as chief justice of Pakistan, was also among aspiring candidates for the post of president in 2003 and 2008.
