`45-minute exercise can control obesity`

KAR ACHI: Lifestyle modification is the key to tackle obesity that can seriously affect quality of life, said experts at a three-day international symposium held at a local hotel on Wednesday.

Titled `Obesity and quality of life`, the event was jointly organised by the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in collaboration with the Universiti of Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday.

The aim of the symposium is to discuss obesity, highlight clinical outcomes relevant to obesity, integrate basic and clinical research/management to fight and develop weight-loss strategies, which are applicable to all.

`Exercising for 45 minutes daily and taking good quality food at proper time and in proper quantity can help address obesity,` said acting vice chancellor of DUHS Prof Masood Hameed Khan.

The symposium, he said, had brought together consultants, basic science researchers, community health experts, physiotherapists, nutritionists, general practitioners, students and the public on a single platform to discuss basic research on obesity and the Islamic Ideology of quality of life.

Experts from Pakistan and abroad would be presenting their research papers during the event.
