PA session resumes today

KAR ACHI: After a two-day break, the Sindh Assembly will resume its business on Thursday morning as a private members day in lieu of Tuesday that was declared a public holiday to commemorate the 273rd urs of Sufi saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhital.

In the order of day, the business brought forward for the private members day includes introduction of private bill of Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmakers Syed Nadeem Razi and Syed Khalid Ahmad pertaining to the Malir Development Authority (Amendment) 2016 while three bills are for consideration. They are: The Barret Hodgson International University at Karachi (Amendment) Bill 2016 of MQM lawmaker Syed Sardar Ahmad, the reports of the standing committee on minorities affairs on Sindh Minorities Rights Commission Bill 2015, and The Criminal Law (Protection of Minorities) Bill 2015 of Nand Kumar of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional.

The privilege motion of PTI lawmaker Khurram Sherzaman pertained to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and adjournment motion was about corruption in Sindh government advertisements.

The five private resolutions on the day`s agenda included upgrading the status of Govt College of Technology, Wahdat Colony, Hyderabad to that of a university, making learning to read the Holy Qura`n as part of school curriculum, imposition of a ban on black stone that is used as poison for committing suicide, paying tribute to Shaheed-i-Islam for Independence of Muslims, and punishment for members of the illegal jirga that gave verdict to shoot and kill a couple who got married of their free will in Shah Latif Town, Malir district.

The five private motions are regarding revival of NCC training; removal of the bus stand opposite side at graveyard of Shadman Town and North Nazimabad near KMDC; setting up central libraries in each district of the province; making polio vaccination card mandatory for any child seeking school admission and setting up a women police desk in every police station.

The other business included 20 amendments moved by six MQM-MPAs Heer Soho, Mohammad Dilawar, Syed Khalid Ahmed, Mohammad Hussain Khan, Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani, and Sumeta Afzal.
