2017-03-18
LAHORE: A cultural evening was held at the Government College University (GCU) in the honour of 193 students visiting from various colleges and universities of Balochistan under the `Youth Mobilisation Campaign` of the Punjab government.

`We must be proud of our cultural diversity, and should adopt a pluralistic approach; accept, respect and appreciate each other`s culture, faith and languages,` said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah while addressing the event, which was marked by performances of the university`s Nazir Ahmed Music Society (NAMS).

Officials of the Punjab Higher Education Department and senior faculty of the GCU also attended the event.

Prof Shah said pluralismwas not merely tolerance towards each other`s cultural differences, rather it also required knowledge, acceptance and appreciation for them.

He said a large number of students from Balochistan also studied at GCU and were provided extensive support and scholarships as per guidelines of the Punjab government.

Earlier, the GCU students enthralled the Baloch students with traditional music and cultural dance performances. GCU`s as well as Baloch students together presented Balochistan`s cultural dance at end of the ceremony, which met with a loud applause.

They also visited the atomic and laser research facilities, natural history museum, Naqoosh centre, sports complex and Allama Iqbal`s room at the university. Staf f Reporter
