LAHORE: More than 10,000 policemen will be deployed in and around mosques, imambargahs, shrines and markets to ensure foolproof security during Ramazan.
This was decided by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) retired Capt Amin Wains in a meeting to review Ramazan security at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines on Tuesday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations retired Capt Liaquat Ali Malik and members of the district peace committee were also present.
The CCPO said all station house officers were directed to visit mosques and imambargahs in their respective areas to review security arrangements and discourage unnecessary use of loudspeakers.
He said parking areas would be established at least 100 metres from religious places and a constable or a pri-vate security guard deployed to check all vehicles.
He directed all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) to visit A-category mosques, imambargahs and shrines daily to ensure security.
SSP Malik said all security arrangements would be discussed with mosque committees of various areas and they appealed to them to cooperate in enforcing security plans.
He said according to plan, policemen and the mosques and imambargah`s were divided into A, B and C categories.
Three policemen would be deployed at A, one constable and two razakars at B and three razakars at C category establishments, he added.
The SSP further said special patrolling squads, including Dolphin Force, Police Respond Unit (PRU) and Elite Force, would keep a vigil on suspicious elements during Sehr, Iftar and Taraveeh. As many as 800 vehicles, including 300 cars and 500 bikes, have been exclusively reserved for patrolling, he added.
