KARACHI: Robbers 1(illed a man by throwing him from the roof of his single-storey house after carrying out a robbery in the Jamshed Quarters locality in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.

Jamshed Quarters SHO Inam Hasan Junejo said some thieves entered a house located on Jahangir Road at around 4am.

They stole Rs20,000 cash and gold ornaments from the home. As they were fleeing, the house owner, Haider R aza, 57, woke up and chased them upon which a scuffle broke out between them.

During the scuffle the suspects threw him from the roofofthehouseandned.

He sust aine d head injuries and died, the official added.

Couple shot dead by `gangsters` in Lyari A man, who had recently returned to Lyari after staying away from the area for around two years, was shot dead along with his wife allegedly by gangsters in the Baghdadi area late Tuesday night, according to officials.

The police said Taj Mohammed, 40, and his wife, Mrs Sana, 32, were sprayed with bullets at his in-laws` house situated in Ali Mohammad Mohalla. Taj Mohammed sustained seven bullet wounds on different parts of his body while his wife received five bullet injuries, said Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi, additional police surgeon of the Civil Hospital Karachi where the bodies were shifted for a post-mortem examination.

The Baghdadi police later registered a case against unidentified suspects on a complaint of the victim`s brother, Pervez, said a police officer, Sabir Husain.

Another police officer, who wished not to be named, told Dawn that the police suspected involvement of one of the ring leaders of the Ghaffar Zikri gang in the double murder case.

The officer said Ghaffar Zikri had been spotted in Lyari recently.

The police officer said the deceased, Taj Mohammed, had once been associated with banned People`s Amn Committee but he fled Lyari following the launch of targeted operations in 2013. He had recently returned to Lyari.
