DERA GHAZI KHAN: A proclaimed offender (PO) was allegedly killed in a police encounter in the Saddar police precincts.
District Police Officer (DPO) retired Capt Atta Muhammad claimed in a press conference on Friday that one of the most wanted proclaimed offenders, Ghulam Husain Zanglani, a resident of Pati Zai, was killed by the firing of his own accomplices during a police encounter.
Police seized a motorcycle and a Kalashnikov from the site.
Saddar police registered a case against Zanglani`s absconding associates, Raza Wadani and an unidentified man, under sections 302/324/353/186/34/ of Pakistan Penal Code and 7 ATA, AO13-2(B)20/65.
The DPO claimed Zanglani was booked in more than 20 cases of kidnap for ransom, robbery, car and motorcycle snatching. He also claimed the gang was involved in the kidnapping of Executive District Officer (Health) Mushtaq Rasool, National Assembly Deputy Secretary Moazzam Ali Kalro and retired havaldar of the army Muhammad Ashraf.
A joint raid by police and Border Military Police was conducted in 2014 to arrest Zanglani but he had managed to flee.
Intelligence sources said Zanglani was arrested a month ago when he along with his two accomplices had gone to Kocha Wadani.
Residents of the area had caught him and handed him over to police for interrogation, they added. During his monthlong interrogation, a list of facilitators was prepared.
When this correspondent asked about the arrest of facilitators, the DPO said they would apprehend the accomplices in the next phase. However, he denied Zanglani had been arrested a month ago or that he was in police custody.
