Balochistan budget

2017-06-18
A DEFICIT budget of Rs52.1bn was announced by the Balochistan government on June 15. However, a deficit is more than 15pc of the total budget expenditure.

Unfortunately, the government once again neglected the two main sectors education and health as the budget allows 17.4pc increase for education expenditure and 7.4pc for health. These two sectors are once ignored.

The provincial government is spending more on the law and order situation for which Rs33bn has been allocated.

Moreover, no fund is allocated for any new university, college or school. However, an allocation has been been made for establishing the Balochistan Bank, for which Rs10bn has been allocated.

No fund has been allocated for overcoming the deepening Gwadar water crisis. The government should reassess the situation and set aside funds for education and health because these sectors provide human resources. Also, funds must be allocated for resolving the Gwadar water problem.
