All polling stations of LA-34 `sensitive`

GUJRAT: All 142 polling stations of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly`s constituency of LA-34 Jammu 5 comprising districts of Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin and Wazirabad tehsil of Gujranwala district have been declared sensitive.

Army troops will be deployed in and outside every polling station and polling booth of the constituency.

District election commissioner Fareedullah Khatak, also the returning officer, told Dawn on Saturday that he had formally sought the deployment of army troops for the entire LA-34 on the polling day.

He said the request had been sent to the Election Commission secretary as all polling stations of the constituency had been declared sensitive in view of the previous history.

He said that presiding officers and polling assistants were given training at the Government Comprehensive School,Gujrat, while the polling scheme had already been issued.

Meanwhile, a meeting to review the security and other arrangements of polling in the Gujrat district was held at the district government complex on Saturday with DCO Liaquat All Chatha in the chair. Acting DPOKamran Mumtaz, Col Muzammil of the army and officials of the district government and election commission were also present.

The meeting was told that out of tota190 polling stations falling in the Gujrat district, nine had been declared most sensitive and included in A+ category while the rest were included in the A-category.

Eight soldiers would be deployed at the most sensitive and six at sensitive polling stations.

The army troops will not only patrol sensitive areas but also provide complete security to the polling staff. They will also guard the staff taking the polling material to their respective polling stations and thenreturningtotheofñce ofthe returningofñcer.
