CCTV cameras to be installed

BAHAWALPUR: Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at the city`s exit and entry points under the Safe City Project.

This was stated by Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) deputy director Muhammad Saad Bashir who was briefing District Police Officer (DPO) Sarfraz Ahmed Fall(i on the project on Sunday.

He said the CCTV cameras would also be installed at all the government offices, important educational institutions, known hotels and restaurants, plazas and busy markets.

The routes of the processions during Muharram and other religious occasions and festivals would also be monitored with such cameras to ensure security, he said and hoped the project would have far reaching impacts on security DPO Falki said the project would be important for the safety of the citizens and work had already started on the project. He directed the DSP traffic to provide a list of important roundabouts and crossings of the city to the PSCA.

WHEAT: The Punjab Seed Council, in its recent meet-ing held in Lahore, approved Bahawalpur`s two new wheat varieties Gold-2016 and Jauhar-2016.

This was claimed by wheat botanist Dr Manzoor Hussain of the Regional Agricultural Research Institute Bahawalpur.

According to Hussain, the council, which met under the chairmanship of Punjab agriculture minister Dr Farrukh Mehmood, had approved a total of seven new wheat varieties. He claimed that the two locally developed varieties were resistant against diseases with an average per acre yield of up to 80 maund.

KILLS WIFE: A man allegedly killed his wife and another man she was suspected to have an affair with on Saturday night.

Ahmad Din suspected his wife had illicit relations with another man. On Saturday night, he shot her dead as well as the man she allegedly had an affair with, and managed to escape immediately.

Saddar police reached on the scene after receiving information. They shif ted the bodies to DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

Police arrested the suspect and started an investigation. The couple had six children.
