DERA MURAD JAMA LI: A senior official of the bomb disposal squad lost his life while defusing a landmine in Sobatpur district on Wednesday.
Police said that two landmines had been planted by militants in the Adil Pur area, but they were spotted and the bomb disposal squad was called in.
According to the police, the militants wanted to target security personnel.
Head constable Phunal Khan Bangulzai, the head of the bomb disposal squad, was defusing the landmines when one of them went off, killing him on the spot.
A senior police official said that other members of the squad escaped unhurt.
The body was handed over to heirs after medico-legal formalities.
According to APP, Phunal Khan had defused one landmine and was working on the other when it exploded. The law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to trace the suspects involved.
