JI lawmakers vow to resist privatisation of colleges

TIMERGARA: The local lawmakers of Jamaat-i-Islami, Izazul Mulk Afkari and Saeed Gul, have said that they will resist changes in the proposed law on education in the provincial assembly.

Talking to local journalists here on Sunday, Mr Afkari said he would raise the issue in the provincial assembly. He rejected the proposed changes in service rules for teachers and privatisation of government colleges.

Mr Afkari claimed that provincial government introduced historical reforms in education sector. He said that some elements wanted to change service rules for teachers and establish board of governors at government colleges to pave the way of privatisation.

He said that JI lawmakers would resist such moves in the cabinet and assembly. Saeed Gul also pledged to resist changes in teachers` service rules. He said that he would support teachers.

`Teachers are builders of nation and we can make progress only if we give due status to them in the society,` the MPA said, adding that JI would not let the government to degrade teachers. Also, a delegation of Tanzeem-i-Asateza met Provincial Minister Muzafar Said at his residence and informed him about the unrest among the teachers regarding changes in their service rules.

The minister said that JI was part of the coalition government and it would suggest teachers-friendly recommendations. He promised to support teachers.

Addressing a separate ceremony organised by Al-Farabi Institute of Medical Sciences Timergara, the minister urged students to get medical education for serving humanity.

MPA Saeed Gul, DHO Shaukat Ali, Dr Anwar Zada, principal of institute Yousaf Khan, JI local emir Malik Sher Bahadar and others also spoke on the occasion.

The function was attended by representatives of local government from Lower and Upper Dir, doctors, paramedics, students, parents and local elders. The minister said that JUI-F: The central leader of JUI-F, Senator Attaur Rehman, on Sunday visited Ouch area to condole the death of former MPA Hasham Khan, who was killed on Thursday.

Talking to local journalists, Mr Rehman condemned the killing of Hasham Khan and termed it a failure of provincial government. He said that provincial government wanted to hand over education sector to non-governmental organisations. He said that JUI-F would not let the government to appoint of ficial prayer leaders in mosque.
