Nurses threaten agitation if demands not met

LAHORE: The Young Nursing Association, Punjab, has said the health department is not addressing promotion matters of nurses despite making promises to them.

Talking to the media at Jinnah Hospital here on Friday, YNA President Rozina Manzoor and secretary-generalShahnazKausar threatened that nurses from all over the province would start agitation if their genuine demands were not addressed by Oct 29.

Ms Rozina said the departmental promotion committee was yet to meet for the promotion of nurses against1781 positions.

She said the department was using delaying tactics to call DPS for the purpose. `At least three secretaries have been changed during our three years of protest, but our promotion matter is still pending,` she lamente d.

The YNA president held Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique equally responsible for the delay in promotion of nurses saying that he (Mr Khawaja) had been holding negotiations with the YNA ofHce bearers for three years, but he did nothing to address the issue.

She claimed that 850 nurses hired on a contract basis were yet to be regularised.
