Performing arts, music institute next year, says minister

HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Sardar Ahmed Shah has said that educational institutions of the province are bound to compulsorily teach the Sindhi language to their students. The Sindh Assembly has already made the relevant legislation and it is now the responsibility of the education department to ensure its implementation.

The minister was speaking to journalists at a programme organised by the Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) on its premises to mark the 60th anniversary of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS) on Monday.

“Its a right of every child in Sindh to get education in the Sindhi language,” he said.

While speaking at the ceremony as chief guest, the minister announced the establishment of 20-room rest houses for intellectuals and literati in Karachi and Hyderabad, expansion of the SAS office, and institution of lifetime achievement awards with Rs15,000 reward for writers. He also announced establishment of the Sindh Institute of Music and Performing Arts next year.

SLA chairman, Abdul Ghafoor Memon, Jami Chandio, Madad Ali Sindhi, Zulfiqar Ali Siyal and Dr Mushtaq Phul also spoke.
