THE devastating floods a few months back caused havoc to some important infrastructures like hydel power stations and bridges across Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, resulting in paralysing the lives of the people.
Corruption on the part of the department concerned and contractors is also involved in the process of building such costly infrastructures, owing to which substandard material is used which collapses bridges and pylons.
Construction work should not be carried out until and unless hazard assessment has been carried out by the authorities concerned. Besides, if an of ficial is found to be corrupt, he should be penalised and blacklisted for ever.
