Court orders govt admit students below 12 to class IX

By Our Staff Reporter 2015-12-18
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab government to conditionally allow students under 12 years of age admission to Class IX and revise its admission policy.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the order hearing a number of petitions complaining that the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) did not allow admission to students under 12 to Class IX. They said the policy was a violation of the fundamental rights protected in the Constitution and amounted to ruining the career of talented students.

The counsel for the BISE told the court the examination policy barred admission of underage students to Class IX. He said if the policy was cancelled there would be a flood of students.

Justice Shah observed the students could involve in negative activities during free time, waiting for the age limit.

The judge ordered the Punjab government to make the policy afresh to facilitate the talented students.LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab government to conditionally allow students under 12 years of age admission to Class IX and revise its admission policy.
