No action for serving more dishes in houses: CDGL

By Our Staff Reporter 2016-01-19
LAHORE: The City District Government of Lahore will not take any action against those who serve more than one dish for guests within the premises of houses during different activities of wedding ceremonies.

The raiding team would only take action for violation of one-dish rule against those who would be found involved in holding rasm-ihina, barat, walima and other wedding-related activities at rented buildings, marriage halls, farmhouses, etc, District Officer (Monitoring and Inquiries) Ameen Akbar Chopra told Dawn on Monday.

`We have been asked by the Lahore DCO not to raid and take action against the people serving more than one dish to their guests within premises of theirhouses.

The action will continue against those holding marriage ceremonies and flouting the ban on one-dish rule at places other than their houses,` he said.

He quoted the DCO as having said to take up the issue with the provincial government since there was confusion over taking action on violation of the one-dish rule and the timeline within premises of houses.

`We have not conducted a single raid at in-house wedding activities. We have neither seized the meal nor arrested anyone,` the official claimed when asked about reports related to raids at such premises.

He said some people were interpreting the law in their own way.

He said the DCO would get it cleared soon by taking up the matter with the provincial authorities concerned.
