Seven seminaries in parade venue vicinity closed

ISLAMABAD: As part of the security measures, the capital administration on Wednesday closed seven seminaries located in the vicinity of the Pakistan Day parade venue.

Earlier, on February 11 the Islamabad Auqaf Directorate had issued a notification for the closure of 41 religious seminaries and shrines located in the two kilometres radius of the venue from March 18 to 24.

After negotiations with the managements of the seminaries the district administration decided to close only seven seminarieslocatedin thenearby areas ofthe venue.

The district administration succeeded in convincing the managements to announce holiday for a week.

The seminaries were located in Secretariat, Aabpara, Industrial Area and Shahzad Town areas.

Meanwhile, during an operation carried out jointly by capital police and paramilitary troops in the areas of Shahzad Town police station, including Shakrial, Nazakat Market, 350 suspects were arrested.

The police said the suspects neither produced their identification documents nor proper reason for their stay in the city.

Later they were taken into custody and shifted to police stations for further legal action.

During the operation a man was also picked up over suspicion and shifted to undisclosed location for further interrogation, they added.
