GHALANAI: The government girls degree college, Ekkaghund, which was set up eight years ago, lacks basic facilities like furniture and playground.

It is the only college in the whole of tribal area where over 250 students are enrolled, but it has no examination hall, as a result, the students have to take exams sitting in their classrooms, according to teachers.

A teacher told Dawn that all the classrooms and offices were in rough condition as no repair work had been undertaken since its establishment.

There is no playground for the students, she added.

The college doesn`t have bus service, which particularly troubles the students coming from far-flung areas, said another teacher. She added that the college`s computer lab had been in disarray as there were no chairs both for the students and teachers.

`Out of 19 computers only six are functional,` said another teacher, adding there is no photocopier in the college either.

A student told this correspondent that bathrooms and latrines were in worse condition, saying the lone water tank lied broken.

A zoology teacher said that the science laboratory lacked items like stuffed animals and basic chemicals needed for conducting experiments.

The college`s vice-principal said that due to absence of examination hall, students of BA were forced to take their exams in Shabgadar.

She demanded that the government install solar panels in the college to provide smooth electricity supply to the institution.
