Taliban still active in Punjab: ANP

Bureau Report 2015-08-19
PESHAWAR: Awami National Party central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that terrorists outfits might have been dismantled in Waziristan but Taliban are still organised in Punjab.

That`s why attacks against individuals were still taking place, he said during his visit to the residence of Punjab slain interior minister retired Col Shuja Khanzada to condole the bereaved family.

A press release issued here by the ANP secretariat said that MianIftikhar Hussain offered prayers for the departed souls of Mr Khanzada and those, who had been targeted in a terrorist attack on last Sunday at his guest house in Shadi Khan area of Attock district. Twenty persons including Punjab interior minister were killed in the attack.

The ANP leader called the late minister a brave man, saying he was hit by a cowardly act of terrorists.

He said that the cowardly act of terrorism left not only his family but many others mourning for that irreparable loss.

Mr Hussain, who himself lost his only son in a terrorist attack, had forgiven his killers, hoping it wouldbring peace. He said that ANP followed the philosophy of non-violence, however, it didn`t mean that one should retreat at such challenging times.

Mr Hussain said that it was possible only because of the sacrifices by such brave men and women that military operation in Waziristan broke the back of militants. All the foreign terrorists fled the area or got killed, he said.

It was one reason that there Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was comparatively peaceful but still there were threats of attacks, said Mr Hussain.

He said that Punjabi Taliban were still very organised which was whysuch terrorist attacks against individuals were taking place.

The ANP leader said that after the Army Public School massacre all the political and military leadership agreed on 20-point agenda to fight terrorism. Military has started acting on the plan already.

Mr Hussain said that provincial and federal governments should also take action against militants and terrorists in Punjab and Karachi the way military was taking action against terrorists in Waziristan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It would be the only way forward to protect people, he added.
