Census continues in 16 dists

LAHORE: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Sunday continued population census across 16 districts in Punjab till 6pm.

The nrst stage of head count will continue till March 28 and the last day has been allocated for the enumeration of mobile and homeless population.

The bureau officials in Lahore found enumeration working smoothly except a few complaints regarding non-cooperation by people.

`Sometimes our teams wait for long outside residences for somebody to come out and provide required information, said Punjab Joint Census Commissioner Akbar Ali Dogar. He said no major complaint was receivedfrom anywhere from the 16 districts, namely Attock, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tel( Singh, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Pakpattan, Vehari, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh and Bahawalpur.

The PBS is holding house listing and head count in two stages in 16 selected districts. In the first stage, the bureau enumerators listed houses in half selected blocks in Lahore and other 15 districts and doing population census only in the first stage selected blocl(s. In the second stage, the enumerators will begin house listing in remaining half of the blocks in 16 districts from March 31 and April 2. The population census in the second stage blocks will be held from April 3 to April 13.
