MARDAN: The bomb disposal squad defused a five-kilogram improvised explosive device planted at the main gate of the hujra of former provincial minister and PPP leader, Rahim Dad Khan, in Hatyaan locality of Lundkhwar area in the wee hours on Monday.

The officials of Lundkwhar policestation said that they were informed by Mir Afzal, watchman at the hujra of Rahim Dad Khan, that some suspicious thing was lying near the building`s main gate.

They said that they along with BDS personnel rushed to the spot and defused the device which was planted in a ghee tin.

The police said it was the third attempt on the residence and hujra ofRahim Dad. Earlier, such bids were foiled in November 2013 and February 2014.

However, sources said that suspected militants might have planted the bomb to target the government girls` high school located adjacent to the residence of the PPP leader.

The Lundkwhar police registered case on the complaint of Mir Afzal, and began investigation.
