Women protection authority established

LAHORE: The provincial government has established Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) and notified its 16-member board, headed by the chief minister as its chairman.

The authority has been established under Section 3 of the Punjab Women Protection Authority Act 2017.

The board members are: women welfare minister Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din, MPAs Ayesha Javed, Mahmood Cheema, Khurram Ijaz Chatha, former IGP Rana Maqbool Ahmad, Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies’ Dean Dr Zakria Zakar, Fouzia Waqar, Fiza Farhan, additional chief secretary (home), I G Police Punjab, administrative secretaries of finance, social welfare and Bait-ul-maal, women development and public prosecution departments.

The PWPA director-general will also serve as secretary to the authority.

It is learnt that Chief Minister’s Special Monitoring Unit head Salman Sufi has been given the additional charge of the PWPA director-general for three months or till the arrival of a regular incumbent.
