Three IEDs defused in Mohmand Agency

GHALANAI: Security personnel on Tuesday defused three improvised explosive devices in Pandilai and Baizai subdivisions.

Two IEDs planted along a dirt track in Toora Bara area in Baizai subdivision near the Pak-Afghan border were safely defused. Sources said that unidentified miscreants had planted the explosives.

Another IED planted in Pehsha Kore Bazaar area of Pandilai were defused by the security forces.

Meanwhile, a landmine went off at Sagi checkpost near Mamad Gat area.

However, no loss of life was reported.

After these incidents, security forces conducted a search operation in the areas, but no one could be arrested till filing of this report.

ELDERS ASKED TO GO AFTER MILITANTS: Mohmand Agency political administration has asked the Baizai tribal elders to keep a watchful eye on the movement of suspects and not allow any anti-state element to use their soil for staging terror activities.

Addressing a jirga of tribesmen from Baizai at Toor Khel area, political agent Mahmood Aslam stressed upon the tribal elders to shoulder their collective territorial responsibility.

Baizai Assistant Political Agent Pir Abdullah Shah and heads of line departments were also present on the occasion.

Mr Aslam assured the elders that development of Baizai subdivision was on top priority of the government. `Work on a community school, a hydel power project and a 12-kilometer road would be started soon,` he promised.

Mahmood Aslam also visited headquarters of 14NLI in Toor Khel and met with security officials.

Security officials told the political agent that law and order situation was satisfactory because tribesmen were cooperating with the security forces in going after the miscreants. Correspondent
