2m seek education for all, end to child marriage

LAHORE: Education Youth Ambassadors (EYAs) have collected two million signatures for the #UpForSchool and End Child Marriage petitions by mobilising people from across the country.

`Over a series of events and activities, the petitions signed by two million people are now being presented to parliamentarians for their support to implement the Right to Education Act and ending child marriages for the cause of developing a civilised and humane society, said an EYAs spokesperson on Wednesday.

In Lahore, the EYAs presented the two mil-lion signatures to Punjab Assembly`s Standing Committee on Education Chairman Qamarul Islam Raja.

Raja said the government was committed and dedicated to resolve the issues of education sector with a two-fold approach.

In the hrst phase, he said, the government was focusing on issues of missing facilities and added that 100pc missing facilities had been provided at girls` schools in the province.

While for boys` schools, he said, targets had been met in south Punjab and efforts were on in the northern part of the province. He said the second phase would focus on imparting quality education and ensuring 100pc enrolment in schools.
