Garbage pile-up

2016-10-20
T HE boundary wall between our area in PECHS, block 2 extension (Kashmir Road) and the Lines Area has become a huge garbage dump. The garbage that stays uncollected for five to six days is burnt emiting smoke for hours together. When we pour water on the fire emiting smolce to save ourselves from inhaling poison, vandals reappear shortly and reignite the garbage dump by putting cardboard etc.

Six or so months earlier there was no garbage at this a garden area but later on it was turned into a garbage dump.

There are houses located 20 to 30 feet from the boundary wall. Continuous fire and smoke has been affecting the health of people. All efforts by our neighborhoods to call the fire brigade have proved futile as fire-fighters do not act saying that extinguishing garbage fire is not their job.

The KMC helpline 1339 gives only the complaint number and passes on the message to the department concerned. Here are some of the complaint numbers given by them: 9503 dated 15.07.2016; 9653 dated 18.07.2016. Anyone is welcome to visit our area. The chief minister is requested to look into the problem? M. Waqas Zuberi Karachi
