Two `militants` remanded in three more cases

KARACHI: The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts remanded on Saturday two suspected militants in police custodyin three more cases, including the murder of Qawwal Amjad Sabri.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have arrested Ishaq, alias Bobby, and Mohammad Asim, alias Capri, belonging to the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, on Nov 7 for their alleged involvement in many targeted killing cases, including the murder of the famed Qawwal, and personnel of army and police.

The suspects, who have already been in police custody on remandin seven cases, were brought before the administrative judge, and police also sought their custody in the Amajad Sabri murder case, killing of five people in Nazimabad on sectarian grounds last month and a triple murder in Buffer Zonein April.

The investigating officer contended that initially they were arrested in explosives and illicit weapons cases and during interrogations they disclosed their alleged involvement in the present cases.

Police sought the custody for questioning, an identification parade and to record statements of witnesses before a magistrate in the fresh cases.

The administrative judge handed the suspects over to police on physical remand till Nov 22 and directed the IO to reproduce them on next hearing with progress reports.

The Qawwalwasgunned down in Liaquatabad onJune22inatargeted attack on his car when he was heading to a private TV channel to perform in a Ramazan-related programme.

The suspects were also booked for allegedly killing five people, including two brothers, on Oct 29 outside a house in Nazimabad where a Muharram majlis for women was being held and in another sectarian 1(illing case of three men on April 8 in Buffer Zone.

They have already been on physical remand in seven cases, including the killing of seven policemen in Orangi Town in April and the murder of two traffic policemen near Ayesha Manzil in May.
