Comsats, Unesco sign MoU

KARACHI: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) and the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (Comsats) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration on capacity-building programmes to be launched at the latter`s centres of excellence.

According to a press release, the MoU was signed at the Unesco headquarters in Paris by Irina Bokova, the director general ofUnesco, and Dr LE. Qureshi, the executive director of Comsats.

On the occasion, Ms Bokova praised the international programmes of Comsats. She said the existing cooperation and trust between Comsats and the UN organisation had led to the unanimous decision of the Unesco executive board to enhance its ties with the former.

Dr Qureshi said Comsats was dedicated to the promotion of scientific cooperation among developing countries.

Comsats, an intergovernmental organisation, has 21 countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America as its members.
