KP Assembly speaker`s brother remanded in police custody

SWABI: A local court on Friday remanded a brother of the KP Assembly speaker into police custody for a day for `misbehaving` with the vice chancellor of the University of Swabi.

University of Swabi VC Dr Noor Jehan had lodged an FIR against Adnan Khan with the Chota Lahor police on Thursday, stating that the latter abused him during a protest of the varsity employees. Police arrested Adnan on Thursday night and produced him in the court of senior civil judge Syed Iftikhar Ali Shah on Friday.

The University of Swabi Staff Welfare Association was protesting the dismissal of director administration, Shujah Waseem, who was dismissed from service only three months after his appointment on contract basis.

Adnan also joined the protesting employees and tried to hold talks with the vice chancellor, but the latter refused to meet him.

Later, Adnan exchanged harsh words with the VC.

It was reported that Adnan Khan was interested in restoration of Shujah Waseem because he belonged to the speal(er`s native village, Marghuz.

TWO INJURED IN ROBBERY ATTEMPT: A guard of the National Bank, Adina branch, and a robber were injured during a robbery attempt on Friday.

The robbers opened hre on the guard, which he returned. As a result, the guard and a robber wereinjured. However, the robbers fled the area taking their injured accomplice with them.

Police officials said that they were making efforts to trace the robbers.

LG POLLS ALLIANCE: Provincial Senior Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai said on Friday that all the ruling coalition partners in the province would forge an electoralalliance to contest the upcoming local bodies polls in the Swabi district.

Addressing a meeting at Topi, he said that PTI, Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan and Jamaat-iIslami would contest the LG elections from a single platform, fielding joint candidates in all the 56 union council in the district.

The election would be contested with the motive to bring positive changes in the society.

Mr Tarakai, who also has the portfolio of health, said that leaders of the three coalition partners would soon hold their preliminary meeting to discuss steps to accommodate each other during the elections.

`The opposition parties would face an ignominious defeat like the general and recently held senate elections,` he claimed.

A meeting would also held in the Gadoon mountainous belt to ask the workers to start election campaign with full vigour, he said.

However, AJIP workers from NA-13, Swabi-II, said that they didn`t want to work with PTI leaders who wanted to dominate all the affairs in the district.
