`Terrorist` with 400kg explosives, arms arrested

PESHAWAR: The city police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a terrorist and recovered 400 kilogrammes of explosives, arms and ammunition from his possession.

Addressing a press conference at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, city police chief Mohammad Tahir Khan said it was a joint operation of the police and intelligence agencies, wherein they nabbed a terrorist identified as Khanzala and recovered explosives, arms and ammunition from his possession.

Mr Khan said the raid was conducted in Mattani area on the southern fringes of the provincial capital, and they recovered 400kg of explosives, which was to be used in making of suicide vests and improvised explosive devices.

The police officer said the explosives were packed in 10 bags, adding the law enforcement personnel also recovered five rocket propelled grenade shells, 12 hand grenades, one pistol used in targeted killings, 10 pocket phones, one transmitter, 42 detonators, 25 remote controls, 40 flashlights, five mobile headphones, 100 meter prima cord, 23 batteries, 1,000 meters electric cord, 203 compact discs and several other items.

The city police chief said that law enforcement agencies also conducted search and strike operation on the outskirts of Peshawar after nabbing the outlaw.-Bureau
