KARACHI: `Stern action` against the about 50 illegal `bachat` bazaars would be started by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation staff on Tuesday, said KMC administrator on Monday.

Briefing the media, administrator Laeeg Ahmed said that as it would be a wide-scale operation, he had already asked the Karachi police chief to provide security to the KMC staff carrying out the operation.

He said 97 `bachat` bazaars were operating on KMC land legally, while around 49 were operating on KMC land illegally and action would be taken against those illegal bazaars.

He said there were around 100 other bazaars were being organised in the city on the lands belonging to the Railways, Defence Housing Authority, Malir and Lyari development authorities, Board of Revenue, various cantonment boards etc, but they were out of the KMC jurisdiction.
