Organ transplant scam suspect denied bail

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday denied bail for a suspect involved inillegalorgan transplantscandal.

Suspect Qamar Abbas contended, through his counsel, that he had no role in the alleged scam and he did not know the prime suspects.

The counsel argued that his client was not even nominated in the first information report (FIR) and the prosecution also failed to make any recovery from him. He asked the court to release the petitioner on bail.

The investigating ofñcer opposed the bail petition, stating the suspect was the member of a gang of doctors involved inillegal trade and transplant of human organs. He said Abbas was an agent of the gang and he was also found guilty in the investigation.

Magistrate Farooq Azam Sohal dismissed the bail petition with an observation that people involved in heinous crime did not deserve the concession of bail.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested the Qamar Abbas on the information of prime suspects, Dr Fawad Mumtaz, Dr Altamash Kharal, Umar Draz and Muhammad Shahzad.

The agency had arrested prime suspects during a raid at a house in EME Society, Thokar Niaz Beg, when they were allegedly transplanting kidneys to some foreigners.
