RAHIMYAR KHAN: Most of the students of the Government Comprehensive High School, the largest institution in the district, have been getting education in the open slg for many years.

The school located in the centre ofthe city has a total land area of 43 kanals with only 11 classrooms, four laboratories and an auditorium.

The enrollment crosses the 1,300 mark while 45 teachers take the responsibility for grooming the students.

Each class bears a load of 90 to 100 students.

Principal Muhammad Wazir Ahmad said the school had only 11 classroomswhich were quite insufficient to cater to 1,360 students.

He said at least 12 to 15 more classrooms were required to be built which was not possible with a meagre yearly school budget of only Rs1 million.

The principal said he had written to the authorities concerned for the construction of new classrooms.

He said the old block of classrooms had been in a dilapidated condition for several years. He said although the buildings department had already declared these classrooms dangerous, they did not demolish them which were a constant threat to students.

The principal said the students were forced to get education in the open because of a lacl< of classrooms, adding that he had arranged tents for some classes.

The removal of sewerage was another big problem as the level of sewerage line of the school was lower than that of the city`s, he said.

The principal said the school administration had established a well for dumping the sewerage water. Mr Wazir said the hostel building of the school was occupied by the district education office and other junior officers.

He said playing grounds and plants could not be maintained because of the brackish subsoil water.
