Law violators booked, hundreds nabbed under NAP

L A HOR E: Capital City Police Of ficer (CCPO) Amin Wains said on Sunday police in association with law enforcement agencies were carrying out search operations under the National Action Plan (NAP) and checked more than 29,000 houses in different areas of the city in the last week.

According to a news release, on the directions of the CCPO, search and sweep operations were carried out in different areas of the city and 50,000 vehicles, including motorcycles, checked and 15,000 impounded for tempering engine and chassis numbers and failing to produce documents.

Police registered 91 cases on violation of the loudspeaker act and tenancy act and particulars, including identity documents of 2,513 seminary students, were checked at 12 seminaries belonging to various sects.

Police warned seminary administrations not to enrol any student without identification of documents and handed over advisory letters issued by the government to improve their security.

During raids, police nabbed 223 proclaimed offenders and court absconders. All hotels, guest houses and bus stands were checked and 99 suspects taken into custody. Police released 60 persons after interrogation and 39 others were booked for failing to produce identification documents.

Police also arrested 88 suspects for selling drugs in different areas of the city and seized 5kg of heroin, 501 bottles of liquor, 42kg of hashish and 60kg of bhang.

Some 82 suspects were arrested for carrying illegal arms and police seized 44 pistols, 25 rifles and more than 2,000 bullets from their possession and cases were registered against them. Police also arrested 70 people for gambling and recovered the betting money and other valuables.
