SAHIWAL: A woman was found injured near Gunbad-i-Sughra Mosque in Bilal Colony around noon on Sunday.

Witnesses said the 60-year-old woman was bleeding and shifted to the DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122 where she died af ter an hour.

Locals believe the woman was also hit and killed by the mysterious gang that was attacking women in different parts of the city for the last two weeks. So far, the gang had stabbed and injured around 10 women moving unaccompanied. Only one of them reported the matter to Farid Town police.

Rescue sources said there was no blade injury on the woman, identified as Kursheed Bibi, and that she was bleeding from behind.

City Deputy Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haq and other police high-ups denied the woman was killed andgave various versions to the media and public. He claimed it was a road accident and had nothing to do with the stabbers.

City Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Riffat Bokhari while talking to Dawn from DHQ Hospital said the hospital`s medical superintendent (MS), forensic experts and a team of doctors had conducted the postmortem.

She claimed the woman had not been struck by the gang of stabbers.

Khursheed`s blood pressure had shot from 110 to 190 and she fell on the road.

Later, she died due to high blood pressure, she added.

Riffat as well as the MS said initial investigation showed no knife or hammer wound on the woman.

She said police have tracked some and continued to track all such reported and unreported cases in Chichawatni and Sahiwal City. No woman had been killed in any of the cases and only injured with sharp metal, she added.

She further said witnesses claimed Khursheed had been hit by a motorcyclist. Police and Rescue 1122 sources were probing this aspect.

Meanwhile, no one from Khursheed`s family had filed a complaint with police.
