GCU holds Pashto debate contest

LAHORE: The Government College University Lahore has for the first time introduced Pashto debates and made it a permanent feature of its annual internal competition to promote national integration and cultural harmony.

`Pashto is the second-largest regional language of Pakistan and also has a very rich history and tradition, so the GCU Debating Society is very proud to make Pashto Debate a part of its Annual Internal Debates 2015, GCU Debating Society President Afzan Munir said here on Tuesday.

He said besides English and Urdu, the varsity had been holding Punjabi debates for many decades.

`This was the first Pashto debate contest and wereceived an encouraging response from students.

Some 22 speakers participated in the initial rounds and six in the finals of Pashto debate contest,` he said.

UET: The University of Engineering and Technology organised an awareness wall< on cleanliness here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Fazal Ahmad Khalid stressed the importance of cleanliness.

`We should clean our homes, educational institutions, workplaces and the cities. Due to cleanliness we may avoid many diseases,`he said.

The walk started from National Library of Engineering Sciences and ended at IB&M. During the wall(, the vice-chancellor appealed to students and employees of the university not to throw garbage in open.
