NAB arrests locomotive factory official over `illegal` assets

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday arrested a deputy chief mechanical engineer (BPS-19) of Pakistan Locomotive Factory, Risalpur, Fiaz Ali Shah, on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The suspect will be produced before an accountability court today (Wednesday) to seek physical custody.

The NAB alleged that the suspect possessed assets valuing millions of rupees, which were beyond his known sources of income.

It said taking cognisance of the matter, inquiry was authorised toascertain the realfacts and collectrequisite evidence regarding moveable and immoveable properties owned, controlled and possessed by the suspect in his own name and in the name of his dependents.

During inquiry, it was revealed that the suspect during his service in Pakistan Locomotive Factory, Risalpur, had allegedly accumulated different assets.

His alleged assets include two plots of one kanal each on Staff Road, Risalpur Cantonment; two plots of one kanal each in Sheikh Maltoon Town, Mardan; ownership of a CNG station in Mardan; ownership of a commercial plot measuring three kanals and three marlas on Malakand Road, Mardan, which was used to establish a CNG station and a bus stand; ownership of a commercial plot measuring 10 kanals and seven marlas in Bagh-i-Arum area of Nowshera; ownership of agricultural land measuring 16 kanals and eight marlas in Mardan, and ownership of a CNG station on Bank Road, Mardan.

R EFERENCE FILED: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission on Tuesday said it had filed a reference against former provincial minister for excise and taxation Liaquat Shabab with an Ehtesab court for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income.

Liaquat Shabab, currently serving as provincial information secretary of Pakistan People`s Party, was arrested by the KPE C on May 28, 2015 but was granted bail by the Peshawar High Court on July 2.

The KPEC claimed the suspect possessed assets to the tune of around Rs90 million but couldn`t produce evidence of ways to get them.

It added that the suspect possessed moveable and immovable properties in Nowshera, Islamabad and Peshawar and maintained accounts in different banks.

In a news release issued here, the KPEC claimed it had so far filed references against seven corruption suspects and would file more in near future.
