`Provinces be taken into confidence over accords with other states`

PESHAWAR: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani has said that all the federating units should be taken into confidence on the visit of heads of different states to Pakistan as it is a must for the country`s solidarity.

He was talking to mediapersons during his visit to Peshawar on Sunday to condole the death of Awami National Party`s former senator Haji Mohammad Adeel. On this occasion, he paid rich tribute to late Haji Adeel for the role he had played as politician and senator for welfare of the people and described his death as irreparable loss for the country in general and for ANP in particular.

Mr Rabbani said that the federal govern-ment ought to take on board all the provinces regarding signing of various memorandums of understanding with the high-level foreign delegations to ensure true representation of the centre.

The Senate chairman said that the federation was clearly defined in the 1973 Constitution, but it was affected when joint session of the parliament was held as the strength of the National Assembly and Senate was not equal here. He said that in other countries the number of members of the National Assembly and Senate used to be equal. He said that work on constitutional amendments for this purpose was a must.

National unity is need of the hour for the country`s solidarity, he said and added that protest in and outside the parliament was the democratic right of every political party. Hesaid that it was duty of both the government and opposition to ensure strengthening of the democratic system.

Mr Rabbani condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendara Modi for hatching conspiracies against Pakistan by inviting Israeli prime minister to India, sending its terrorists to Balochistan and targeting Pakistani soldiers. He also condemned the bloodshed in held Kashmir at the hands of India forces and urged the international community to raise voice against the injustices.

Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan said on the occasion that the government`s internal and foreign policies had failed to bring the country out of the crisis and that was why no neighbouring state was ready to participate in the Saarc conference.He said that steps should be taken against all those involved in the Panama leaks scandal. He added that PTI chief Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen were also owners of the offshore companies. He said that the people should wait for the court to decide the case.

The ANP leader asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to materialise his commitment regarding actual route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He said that the CPEC`s original route included Bajaur Agency to Jandula and Zhob, Swabi, Dera Ismail Khan and headquarters of various districts and tribal agencies.

Meanwhile, federal minister Akram Durrani, Ameer Haider Hoti, MNA Ghulam Bilour and several other political leaders and businessmen visited the residence of late Haji Adeel to condole his death.
