Bahria University convocation held

KARACHI: More than 750 students received their degrees at the 12th convocation of Bahria University held on its Karachi campus on Sunday.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah was the chief guest at the ceremony, which was attended by a large number of senior naval officers and parents of the graduating students.

PhD, postgraduate and undergraduate degrees were awarded in the disciplines of management sciences, humanities and social sciences, computer sciences, earth and environmental sciences, electrical engineering, software engineering and professional psychology.

Congratulating the students, Admiral Zakaullah lauded the efforts of Bahria University for providing excellent knowledge skills to students in their respective disciplines that, he said, would enable them to lead a professionally rewarding life.`Universities today need to expand strategic networking with multinational corporations, public and private sector organisations and research-based institutions. The new endeavours being undertaken by the management of Bahria University, he pointed out, would provide a competitive edge to the university to become a leading educational institution of the country.

He expressed pleasure to see quite a good number of graduates in varied academic disciplines being produced by Bahria University Earlier in his welcome address, retired Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz highlighted the university`s efforts in providing a highly conducive academic environment, state-ofthe art labs and qualified faculty to its undergraduate and postgraduate students.Moreover, in order to remain in sync with market demands, he said the university was continuously reviewing curricula of its current programmes and had taken new initiatives such as starting an MS in project management and supply chain management, an MBA in Islamic finance, and bachelors in information technology and other disciplines.

Students who received the gold medals are: Nawal Naeem, Hina Farheen, Naila Shabbir, Faleha Faroogi, Sadaf Riaz and Shaheera Haroon from the management sciences department.; Sana Yasir from the social sciences; Ayesha Waris and Shahzad Usmani from electrical engineering; Syed Azeem Akhter, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Usman from computer sciences; Conrad Walter D`Silva and Ambreen Yousuf Ali from software engineering and Anam Fatima Sheriff, Syeda Affifah Saud and Syeda Anam Fatimah from psychology.

Eleven silver medals were also awarded to various students who achieved positions in their respective programmes.
