KARACHI: An illegal construction relating to a school building being raised in violation of the approved plan on an amenity plot off Amir Khusro Road has been stopped, it is learnt.

According to sources, the school building was being constructed by the Omerson Trust in the Bahadur Yar Jung Cooperative Housing Society and a building plan was approved by the Sindh Building Control Authority.

However, during the construction the trustees violated the plan and raised the constructions.

A report prepared by the SBCA deputydirector of Gulshan Town, in whose jurisdiction the 3,127-square-yard plot is situated, says it is an amenity plot designated for educational purposes as shown in the sublease/ documents of the plot, submitted by the trustees for the approval of the building plan.

The plan was approved by the SBCA on Feb 23, 2011 for a school building comprising a basement (parking) and ground and two upper floors.

The report says that during the construction the plan was violated and more basement area than approved by the SBCA was covered, the height of the basement was increased by three feet and some portions of the compulsoryopen space (COS) on a side was also covered and some columns were raised in the COS.

Construction has been completed up to the basement, ground and first floor roof structure on some portions.

The report says that the approval was for `basement (parking), ground-plus two floors (educational purposes)` whereas the violations are: ` i) excess area in basement; ii) construction in some portions of COS; iii) construction in assembly area.` The present position is `basement-plus ground and first floor on some portions` Work is suspended under legal action, adds the report.
