TAXIL A: Female teachers from Federal Government (FG) schools setup on Saturday staged a protest rally for regularisation of their services.

Talking to newsmen, the protesting teachers said they had been working on daily wages for the last 15 years.

They urged the directorate of Federal Government Educational Institutions (Cantt and Garrison) should fulfill their demands.

They chanted slogans and carried placards and banners inscribed with their demands.

They said the authorities concerned even ignored the court verdict, which orders regularisation of their services, relaxation in age and creation of posts hence committing contempt of court.

However, they claimed that some of the teachers even got `best teacher awards`. According Salama Begum, a teacher inFederal Government Girls High School, Taxila, said the administration could fire any one of them from her job as they did not enjoy the facilities which were available to the permanent staff.

She said that in sheer violation of rules and ethics, they only availed 10 days maternity leave that was too without salary.

`A working woman is entitled to 40 days special maternity leave with full pay but we are denied this facility,` she said.

Another teacher, Nadia Bibi, said that they were worried about their future as they got a meagre Rs5,000 per month which was far below the minimum wage set by the government for an ordinary labourer.

Syeda Zhura, who teaches math in the FG Public School, Taxila, said they spent summer vacation without salary which added to their financial.

The affected teachers appealed to the army chief, the prime minister and the interior minister to intervene and get their servicesregularised.
