Two get death sentence in driver killing case

PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court here on Saturday convicted two persons of kidnapping and killing a taxi driver and sentenced them to death with a fine of Rs300,000 each.

Judge Zafar Khan pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the two accused, Azmatullah and Hikman Shah, and the evidence on record alsoproved their involvement in commission of the offence.

The court stated that the fine amount should be paid to the legal heirs of the taxi driver. The court also convicted a third accused, Mohammad Saeed, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The prosecution claimed that the two prime suspects had booked a taxi in Nov 2013 from outside thePeshawar airport for Hangu district. When they reached Hangu they tried to forcibly take away the vehicle and on resistance they killed the taxi driver, Musharraf.

They dumped the body in a deserted well in a poultry farm at Darsamand area in Hangu. The police had arrested the two accused in Dec 2013 in Peshawar on suspiclon that they were outlaws.However, during interrogation theyconfessedto thekillingofthe taxi driver and dumping his body.

The police laterrecovered body of the taxi driver.

The state prosecutor contended that body of the taxi driver was recovered on the information of the accused persons and the case had been proved beyond any doubt. Bureau Report
