16kg bomb defused in Lakki Marwat village

LAKKI MARWAT: Police on Monday defused a locally made bomb planted alongside a house in Shamoni Khattak village, bordering the Karak district.
An official said that law enforcers reached the village after being informed that unknown miscreants had planted explosive along the house of one Abdul Mateen there.
He said police surrounded the area and called personnel of bomb disposal squad to defuse the bomb.
Abdul Mateen, the house owner, told police that he noticed presence of a suspected cylinder at the back of his house while going to mosque to say Fajr prayers.
He said the cylinder was actually a homemade bomb. He said on two occasions in the past, miscreants had attempted to plant explosives near his house.
Mr Mateen said that he had no enmity with anyone.A police official said 16kg explosives were used in the bomb connected with detonators. He said if exploded the bomb could have caused massive destruction.
Police registered a case against unknown miscreants and began investigation.
Separately, police arrested a proclaimed offender near Fageeran graveyard in Lakki city on Monday.
Following the instructions of DPO Ismail Kharak, a police party raided a place near the graveyard and captured the criminal,` said an official, adding that the arrested PO identified as Adnan was wanted by the Bannu police in murder case.
SPORTS GALA ENDS: Lieutenant Adnan Shaheed Sports Gala organised by the army concluded at the district sports complex, Tajazai, on Monday with a prize distribution ceremony.
Station Commander, Bannu, Brigadier Imran Munawar, deputy commissioner Syed Zafar Ali Shah, DPO Ismail Kharak, Bashir Khan, the father of deceased lieutenant, members of Marwat Qaumi Jirga, sports lovers and peoplefrom different walks of life attended the ceremony.
Over two dozen local sports clubs took part in volleyball, basketball and cricket events. Final match of volleyball was played between Kot Kashmir and Baistkhel clubs before the prize distribution ceremony.
Students of government schools also participated in slow cycle race, 100 metre race, sack race and relay race and tug-of-war events. On the occasion a special competition of banana eating was held among special children.
Besides, students also exhibited karate skills and sangnationalsongs.
Brigadier Munawar distributed trophies, certificates and cash rewards among the players of winner and runner up teams.
He also gave away special prizes to the students of government schools, special children and karate players.
Mr Munawar assured that Pak army would organize such healthy events in future so as to provide the local youths with opportunities to exhibit their skills.
