Traders protest 10-day long power suspension

TIMERGARA: The Talash Bazaar traders on Tuesday took out a rally against Pesco and district administration over failure to restore electric supply to different markets during the last 10 days. The protesters closed their businesses and came onto the road.

Former president of Anjuman Tajaran Talash Sher Mohammad and trade leader Sajjad Khan, who led protesters, complained the bazaar`s power transformer had been outoforderfor10 days.

They said they had contacted the relevant Pesco and district administration officials time and again for corrective measures but to no avail.

The protesters said unavailability of electricity hadadversely affected their businesses besides causing acute shortage of drinking water.

They warned they would block the ChakdaraTimergara Road if electric supply to the markets was not restored in two days.

The mob dispersed peacefully after Talash SHO Jamiluddin showed up and pacified them.

TEACHERS PROTEST: The Government Post Graduate College Timergara teachers on Tuesday complained about the `harsh attitude` of BISE Malakand chairman towards them and announced they would boycott the examination duty, checking of papers and supervision of practical examination.

The announcement was made during an emergency meeting of Professor andCollege Teachers Association at the college.

Professor Aminul Haq chaired the meeting, where college professors and lecturers were in attendance.

The participants complained BISE Malakand chairman Fazal Rabi, a bureaucrat, misbehaved with examination staff in front of students causing unrest among teachers.

They demanded the immediate replacement of the BISE chairman.

The participants warned that teachers would boycott examination duty if their demand was not met within a week.

PARAMEDICS TO BOYCOTT DUTY: The Paramedical Association Lower Dir on Tuesday announced that paramedics in the district would go on a complete strike from today(Wednesday) to an indefinite period over denial of promotion and post upgrades.

The announced was made during a meeting of the association at the DHQ Hospital Timergara.

Association president Hameed Gul chaired the meeting, where paramedics from across the district showed up in large numbers.

The participants said last year, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and finance minister Muzaffar Syed promised paramedics proper promotion and post upgrades but the promise had yet to be fulfilled.

They said paramedics would observe a complete strike on the matter across the district from April 22 onwards and that the strike would continue until the demand was met.
