DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The administration of Gomal University is set to initiate action against the people involved in a corruption scandal, according to sources.

The committee comprising senior of ficials of the university was constituted in line with the directives of public accounts committee of the provincial assembly to investigate the scandal. The scandal was detected during audit of the accounts of the university.

Sources said that the committee was authorised to collect evidence and f acts about irregularities in construction of foreign faculty guest house and other works.

They said that both the officials were summoned by the committee to defend themselves, however, theyevaded it.

Sources said that the case was likely to be referred to syndicate of the university.

It merits a mention that the university was described to be an organised and financially well established institution as well as best in ranking until 2008.

However, it drifted into multiple crises owing to negligence of the authorities concerned.

In 2015, Dr Inayatullah was posted as acting vicechancellor of the university to manage its affairs.

However, he promoted as many as 56 teachers to the next grade.

Sources said that passage of 18th Amendment also affected the university as it was given in the control of provincial government that led to wrapping up of the pre-audit mechanism.

The PTI led provincial government in 2013 approved special grant of Rs6.3 million for the university but the provincial finance management converted the promised grant intoloan.
