School built with substandard material

2014-09-22
KOHAT: The district education monitoring team has submitted a report to the local lawmaker highlighting use of substandard material in the construction of Rs180 million girls` higher secondary school, Chakarkot.

The committee head, Mr Kaleemullah, who was appointed by MPA Zaullah Bnagash of PTI, visited the school on the request of the local elders and checked its rooms, roof and latrines.

He found that some walls and roofs had not been properly plastered while latrines had become useless because labourers stuffed construction material in them. He expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of work and reported the same to the lawmaker.

The school was upgraded to higher secondary level by former provincial minister Syed Qalbe Hassan during the tenure of ANP two years back. Afterwards, the communication and works department awarded construction of the building to its own nominated contractor, and allegedly took commission from him, thus compromising quality of work.

The local people had asked MPA Ziaullah Bangash to appoint an honest engineer for checking quality of work.-Correspondent
