Karachi horror story`

2015-02-23
IRFAN Husain starts his article `Karachi horror story` (Feb 14), saying: `The PPP announced its new partnership with the MQM just when we heard allegations of mass murder committed by thugs linked to the latter.

The Sindh High Court has given the lower court a year to deliberate on the issue of the JIT and come up with a verdict.

The writer did not bother much even about the fact that there were three other investigations: first by a committee of police of ficers, the second by the FIA, and the third a judicial inquiry by a judge of the SHC, which concluded short circuit to be responsible for the tragedy.

The fact that all three investigations ruled out extortion as the primary cause of the tragedy did not seem to attract the writer`s attention because in his wisdom he had already declared it to be a case of extortion, accompanied with brutal murder.

The writer talks about the situation in Karachi during the last 30 years. He describes this period as that of utter lawlessness, implying that prior to that it was peace in the city.

The writer has ignored the atrocities committed in the city during the Ayub versus Fatima Jinnah presidential election.

This laid the foundation for ethnic tension in Karachi by Gohar Ayub and his father when they decided to punish the Urduspeaking people of Karachi for siding with Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah against Ayub Khan, thereby laying the foundation for ethnic tensions in the city. The writer also ignored the massacre in Qasbah and Aligarh Colony in December 1986. He also failed to mention the military operation against the MQM, during which many MQM workers were killed extra-judicially.
